What is a "dig"?
A dig in volleyball is a defensive move used to save the ball from hitting the ground after an opponent's attack, such as a hard spike. The player uses their forearms or hands to pass the ball, often in a low, controlled position, to send it to a teammate. A successful dig requires quick reflexes, good positioning, and the ability to react to the ball's speed and direction. It is a key skill for keeping the ball in play and preventing the other team from scoring.
Example
