What is a "fly"?
A fly is a closure or opening in the front of trousers or pants that allow for easy putting on or taking off of the garment. It typically consists of a zipper or a series of buttons, although in the past, flies were often fastened with hooks and eyes or even laced together. The purpose of a fly is to provide an opening through which the wearer can use the bathroom or change clothes without having to take the garment off completely.
