What is a "duplex"?
A duplex is a building that contains two separate living units, which are usually located either one above the other or side by side. Each unit has its own entrance, and the two units may share a wall or floor and ceiling. Duplexes are often used as rental properties, with one unit occupied by the owner and the other rented out, or both units may be rented. They offer more privacy than apartments while still allowing residents to be close to their neighbors. Duplexes are common in urban and suburban areas, providing a balance of space and affordability.
