What is a "jackal"?
The jackal is a medium-sized carnivorous mammal belonging to the Canidae family. Jackals are known for their slender bodies, long legs, and bushy tails. There are three species of jackals: the golden jackal (Canis aureus), the black-backed jackal (Canis mesomelas), and the side-striped jackal (Canis adustus), each with its own unique characteristics and distribution range. Jackals play an important ecological role as predators, helping to control populations of prey species and contributing to the balance of ecosystems in their respective habitats.
