The fibula is a slender, long bone found on the lateral side (outer side) of the leg, parallel to the larger tibia. Although it is not directly involved in weight-bearing, the fibula contributes to the overall stability of the lower leg and helps to distribute forces during movement. Additionally, the fibula plays a role in protecting vital structures such as blood vessels and nerves that pass through the lower leg.
