A blackpoll is a small songbird with striking black and white plumage. The female has a similar pattern but with less intense black coloring. Blackpolls are known for their remarkable migratory abilities, undertaking one of the longest nonstop flights of any bird, crossing over the Atlantic Ocean from their breeding grounds in North America to their wintering areas in South America. They have a high, clear song often heard during their breeding season in the boreal forests.
