What is a "dismissal"?

A dismissal in cricket refers to a batter being ruled out, meaning they can no longer continue batting. There are various ways a player can be out, such as being bowled, caught, run out, or stumped, among others. Once a player is out, they must leave the field and are replaced by another batter. The goal of the fielding team is to get the batters out in order to limit the runs scored, while the batting team's aim is to avoid being out and score as many runs as possible.
