What is a "huipil"?
A huipil is a traditional Mayan garment worn by indigenous women in Guatemala and parts of Mexico and Central America. It is a rectangular-shaped tunic or blouse made from two or three woven or embroidered panels, with a hole cut in the center for the head to go through. The style and decoration of the huipil vary depending on the region and the indigenous group that makes it. It is often worn as a daily garment, as well as for special occasions, and can be paired with a skirt or a traditional wrap-around skirt called a corte. The huipil is an important symbol of Mayan culture and identity and has been worn for centuries.
