A hoarding is a temporary wooden structure built on the outer walls of a castle or fortification, designed to provide additional protection for defenders. It typically extends outward from the top of the walls, creating a covered walkway or platform where soldiers can safely shoot arrows or drop objects on attackers below. Hoardings are often supported by brackets or beams, allowing defenders to have a better vantage point while remaining shielded from enemy fire.
