What is a "laxative"?
A laxative is a substance or medication used to stimulate bowel movements and reduce constipation. It works by increasing the frequency and ease of passing stool. Laxatives work by either softening the stool, adding bulk to stool to stimulate movement, or stimulating the muscles of the intestines.
