What is an "inning"?
An inning in baseball or softball consists of both teams having a turn to bat and a turn to field. Each inning is divided into two halves: the top and the bottom. In the top half, the visiting team bats, while the home team fields. In the bottom half, the roles are reversed, with the home team batting and the visiting team fielding. An inning ends when three outs are made by the fielding team. The game is typically played over nine innings, but the number can vary depending on the league or type of game.
