What are "cramps"?
Cramps are sudden and uncontrolled muscle contractions that cause pain or discomfort. They can occur for various reasons, such as muscle fatigue, dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, hormonal changes, or menstruation. Menstrual cramps specifically occur in the lower abdomen and pelvis before or during menstruation due to the contraction of the uterus. Cramps can affect various parts of the body, including the legs, feet, abdomen, or hands, and can range from mild to intense. They may be brief or last for several minutes. Treatment for cramps typically involves stretching, massaging, applying heat or cold, and staying hydrated. In some cases, underlying medical conditions may need to be addressed to prevent recurring cramps.
