What is the "outfield"?
The outfield is the area of a baseball or softball field that is located beyond the infield, which is the part closest to the bases. It is made up of the left field, center field, and right field sections. The outfield is where players, known as outfielders, are positioned to catch balls that are hit far into the field, preventing them from hitting the ground or reaching the stands. The outfield is larger than the infield and is important for stopping long hits and making accurate throws to the infield players.
