What is "hamantash"?
Hamantaschen are a traditional Jewish pastry that is associated with the holiday of Purim. Hamantaschen are triangular-shaped cookies made from a sweet dough that is filled with a variety of sweet fillings, such as fruit preserves, poppy seed, or chocolate. The pastry dough is typically made from flour, sugar, eggs, and butter, and is rolled out into thin circles. The filling is then spooned onto the center of the circle, and the edges of the dough are folded up to create a triangle shape, leaving the filling exposed in the center. The cookies are then baked until they are golden brown and crispy. Hamantaschen are often enjoyed during Purim celebrations, which commemorate the saving of the Jewish people from the evil Haman in ancient Persia. The triangular shape of the cookies is said to represent the three-cornered hat that Haman wore.
