What is the "GRE"?
The GRE, or Graduate Record Examination, is a standardized test used as part of the admission process for many graduate schools in the United States and other countries. The GRE measures skills in three main areas: verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analytical writing. The verbal reasoning section assesses reading comprehension, critical thinking, and the ability to analyze written material. The quantitative reasoning section evaluates mathematical skills, including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis. The analytical writing section requires test-takers to express complex ideas clearly and effectively through written essays. The GRE is often a requirement for various graduate programs, including master's and doctoral degrees, and is designed to provide a common measure for evaluating applicants' readiness for graduate-level study.
