What is "dystrophy"?
Dystrophy refers to a group of genetic disorders characterized by progressive weakness and breakdown of the muscles. These conditions are caused by changes in genes that are important for muscle function and maintenance. Symptoms can vary depending on the type of dystrophy but often include muscle weakness, difficulty walking, frequent falls, and in serious cases, breathing and heart problems. There is currently no cure for dystrophy, but treatment focuses on managing symptoms and improving quality of life through physical therapy, medications, and supportive care.
