What is "turbinate"?
Turbinate, also known as nasal concha or nasal turbinate, refers to the structures located inside the nasal cavity. There are three pairs of turbinates: superior, middle, and inferior. These bony structures are covered with a mucous membrane and are responsible for filtering, humidifying, and warming the air we breathe. The turbinates also help to increase the surface area of the nasal cavity, allowing for better contact between the air and the nasal tissues. They play a crucial role in regulating airflow, directing it efficiently through the nasal passages. Variations in the size and shape of the turbinates can impact nasal breathing and contribute to conditions such as nasal congestion or allergies.
