What is a "euphemism"?

Example
" Between jobs " is a euphemism for being unemployed.
"Entre trabajos" es un eufemismo para estar desempleado.
To avoid upsetting the children, she employed a euphemism, saying their pet rabbit had " gone to a farm " instead of mentioning its death.
