What is a "breakout"?

In lacrosse, a breakout refers to a fast and coordinated movement by a team to move the ball from their defensive zone to the offensive zone. It usually happens after gaining possession of the ball, often following a turnover or a save by the goalie. During a breakout, players work together to quickly pass the ball and move up the field, aiming to create a scoring chance before the opposing defense can position themselves. A successful breakout relies on speed, teamwork, and precise passing.
