Impasto

a painting technique in which paint is applied so thickly to the canvas or panel that the brush strokes are visible

Examples

1. Impasto was first noticeable in the paintings of Venetian Renaissance artists Titian and Tintoretto.

2. We have one on Chiaroscuro and well as one on Impasto.

3. Impasto, meaning in paste, is thickly applied paint.

4. Think of it as pretty much the opposite of impasto of gestural brushstrokes.
