What is an "egg timer"?
An egg timer is a simple kitchen tool used to measure the cooking time of eggs. It typically consists of a small mechanical device with a clockwork mechanism or sand-filled chamber enclosed in a plastic or metal casing. To use an egg timer, you twist or set the timer to the desired cooking time, then place it in the pot of water with the eggs. As the eggs cook, the timer gradually counts down until the set time has elapsed, at which point it alerts you with a bell, buzzer, or other audible signal.
