What is a "burnous"?

A burnous is a traditional, hooded cloak-like garment that is typically worn in North Africa and the Middle East. It is made from heavy wool or cotton and often features intricate embroidery or decorative tassels. The burnous is usually a long, flowing garment that covers the entire body and is traditionally worn by men, although women may also wear a similar garment called a haik. The hood of the burnous is designed to keep the wearer warm in cold weather and can be pulled up to protect the head and face from wind and rain.
