What is "surrogacy"?
Surrogacy is an arrangement where a woman, known as the surrogate, carries and gives birth to a baby for another person or couple who cannot become pregnant themselves. People may use surrogacy for various reasons, such as infertility or health issues. The baby can be created using the surrogate's egg, one of the intended parents' eggs, or a donated egg, and it is usually the intended parents' sperm that is used. In some cases, donor sperm may also be used. After the baby is born, the surrogate gives the baby to the intended parents.
