Waterbuck

What is a "waterbuck"?

The waterbuck is a robust antelope species that inhabits savannas, grasslands, and woodlands near rivers, lakes, and swamps in Africa. They have a distinctive shaggy coat that is brown to greyish in color, with a white ring on their rump and a white bib-like patch on their throat. Males are larger than females and have impressive curved horns that can reach up to 100 cm (39 inches) in length. Waterbucks are known for their strong association with water, as they rely on it for both drinking and protection from predators. They are also known for their keen senses and strong territorial behavior, often marking their territories with scent glands. Waterbucks are grazers, feeding on grasses and other vegetation, and are generally social animals that live in small to medium-sized herds.
