What is "sepsis"?

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that occurs when the body's response to an infection causes widespread inflammation, leading to tissue damage, organ failure, and potentially death. Symptoms of sepsis include fever, chills, rapid breathing and heart rate, confusion, and extreme pain or discomfort.
