Igloo
What is an "igloo"?
An igloo is a small, dome-shaped house made from blocks of compacted snow, traditionally built by the Inuit people in cold, snowy regions. The blocks are stacked in a circular pattern, gradually sloping inward to create a roof. Igloos are designed to trap body heat and keep the inside warm, even in extremely cold temperatures, due to the insulating properties of snow. They are typically used as temporary shelters for hunting or travel, though some modern igloos are built for tourism or as unique living spaces.
Example
In the Arctic, indigenous people have been building traditional igloos for generations to withstand harsh winter conditions.
在北极,土著人民世代相传地建造传统的冰屋,以应对严酷的冬季条件。
Explorers often rely on igloos as temporary shelters during their polar expeditions due to their insulating properties.
