What is "stumping"?
Stumping in cricket happens when the wicketkeeper gets the batter out while they are out of their crease, typically after the bowler has delivered the ball. It usually occurs when the batter leaves their crease to play or miss a ball, and the wicketkeeper quickly removes the bails, which are the small pieces of wood placed on top of the stumps, before the batter can return. Stumping is a clever and quick way for the wicketkeeper to dismiss a batter, and it requires alertness and precision. It can only happen when the bowler delivers the ball, and the batter is not attempting a run.
