What is a "brogue"?
A brogue is a type of shoe that originated in Scotland and Ireland in the early 20th century. Brogues are characterized by their decorative perforations or "broguing" along the edges and top of the shoe, as well as their sturdy leather construction and low heel. Originally designed as outdoor work shoes, brogues have since become a popular style of dress shoe for men and women, and are available in a variety of styles, including wingtip, full brogue, and semi-brogue. The perforations on brogues were originally intended to allow water to drain from the shoe in wet conditions, but over time they became purely decorative and are now a hallmark of the brogue style. Brogues are typically made of leather and come in a range of colors, from traditional brown and black to bold and colorful designs.
