What is "conduction aphasia"?
Conduction aphasia is a type of language disorder that occurs due to damage to the neural pathways connecting Broca's and Wernicke's areas in the brain. Individuals with conduction aphasia typically have intact comprehension and fluent speech production but struggle to repeat words or phrases accurately. They may make paraphasic errors, where they substitute incorrect words or sounds while speaking, which can lead to nonsensical or jumbled speech. Despite these challenges, they are often aware of their errors and may become frustrated by their inability to communicate effectively. Treatment usually involves speech therapy focused on improving language skills, repetition, and communication strategies.
