válvula mitral
a heart valve between the left atrium and left ventricle that regulates blood flow by opening and closing its two leaflets
What is "mitral valve"?
The mitral valve, also known as the bicuspid valve, is a heart valve located between the left atrium and the left ventricle. It consists of two leaflets that open and close to regulate blood flow. When the left atrium contracts, the mitral valve opens, allowing oxygenated blood to flow from the atrium into the ventricle. It then closes tightly when the left ventricle contracts to prevent blood from flowing back into the atrium, ensuring efficient circulation of blood throughout the body.
