What is "losartan"?

Losartan is a medication mainly used to treat high blood pressure and certain types of heart conditions. It works by blocking the action of a substance in the body that tightens blood vessels, and so allowing blood vessels to relax and widen. This helps to lower blood pressure and improve blood flow. Losartan is also sometimes prescribed to protect the kidneys from damage in people with type 2 diabetes. It is often combined with other medications to achieve the best possible blood pressure control.
