a protein on red blood cells, influencing blood type
What is "rhesus factor"?
Rhesus factor, or Rh factor, is a protein found on the surface of red blood cells that determines whether a person's blood type is Rh-positive or Rh-negative. If the protein is present, the blood type is Rh-positive; if absent, it is Rh-negative. This factor is inherited from one's parents, and knowing one's Rh factor is important for safe blood transfers and during pregnancy, as different Rh factors between mother and baby can lead to complications.
