What is a "platelet"?
A platelet is a small, disk-shaped cell in the blood that help with clotting to stop bleeding. When a blood vessel is injured, platelets quickly gather at the place of the injury, sticking to the damaged area and forming a plug to close the wound. They also release substances that help the clotting process by attracting more platelets. This is crucial for preventing excessive bleeding from injuries and for healing.

Red bone marrow, located in the flat bones and the ends of long bones, produces red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.
Aplastic anaemia can result in a low count of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets in the blood.
The spleen also serves as a reservoir for platelets and white blood cells, releasing them into circulation as needed to support the immune response.
Individuals with aplastic anaemia may experience easy bruising and prolonged bleeding due to a shortage of platelets.
