Soffit
01
soffito, techado
the underside of an architectural element, such as a ceiling, arch, or overhanging roof, typically located on the underside of a structure
What is a "soffit"?
A soffit is the horizontal or sloping underside of an overhanging part of a building, such as the section beneath a roof's eaves or a balcony. It protects the structure by covering exposed materials, helping to keep out pests and moisture while also providing a finished appearance. Soffits may also feature ventilation openings to help circulate air in attics or roof spaces, reducing heat and moisture buildup. They are often made of wood, vinyl, or aluminum and are both functional and decorative.

Installing vents in the soffit improved air circulation throughout the house.
Birds often try to nest in gaps in the soffit if it is not sealed properly.
Proper ventilation through the soffit helps prevent moisture buildup in the attic.
The contractor inspected the soffit to ensure it was secure and free from rot.
The soffit under the roofline was painted white to match the exterior walls.
