What is "whist"?

Whist is a classic trick-taking card game that became popular in England in the 18th century. It is usually played by four players in two teams, using a standard 52-card deck. The goal is to score points by winning tricks, which are rounds of cards played by each player. Players take turns playing one card, and the highest card in the leading suit or the trump suit wins the trick. The trump suit is decided at the start of each game by revealing the last card dealt.
