A pedestrian hybrid beacon is a special type of traffic signal designed to help pedestrians cross busy roads safely. It consists of a set of lights that are activated when a pedestrian presses a button to cross the street. When activated, the beacon shows yellow lights to warn drivers to slow down and a red light to stop traffic, allowing pedestrians to cross safely. Unlike regular traffic signals, pedestrian hybrid beacons are used at locations where there is not enough foot traffic to justify a full traffic signal, but where pedestrian safety is still a concern.
