During a hemilaminectomy, the surgeon makes a cut on the affected side of the spine, removes a part of the lamina, and may also trim or remove other structures causing pressure on the spinal cord or nerves. The goal of this procedure is to relieve pain, numbness, or weakness in the legs or arms caused by nerve narrowing. Physical therapy and rehabilitation are often recommended afterward to help in recovery and restore movement.
