What is "hyperglycaemia"?
Hyperglycemia is when the level of sugar in the blood is higher than normal. This often occurs in people with diabetes when their body does not have enough insulin or is not using insulin effectively. Symptoms of hyperglycemia may include increased thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, blurred vision, and slow healing of wounds. If left untreated, hyperglycemia can lead to serious complications such as a dangerous condition called diabetic coma. Management typically involves adjusting medication, diet, and lifestyle to control blood sugar levels. In serious cases, insulin injections or other medications may be necessary to bring blood sugar levels down quickly.
