a diet that gains sudden popularity and often promises rapid weight loss through unconventional methods, but may lack scientific support or long-term effectiveness
What is a "fad diet"?
A fad diet is a trendy or popular dietary approach that promises rapid weight loss or other health benefits based on limited or unproven scientific evidence. These diets often advocate for extreme or restrictive eating patterns, elimination of entire food groups, or consumption of specific "miracle" foods or supplements. Examples of fad diets include the cabbage soup diet, the grapefruit diet, the alkaline diet, and various detox or cleanse diets. While fad diets may result in short-term weight loss due to calorie restriction or water loss, they are generally not sustainable or balanced in the long term. Moreover, they may lack essential nutrients, lead to nutrient deficiencies, or even pose health risks.
