a term of camaraderie or endearment for a close friend, used primarily within some Black communities
What is the origin of the term "nigga" and how is it used?
"nigga" is a variant of the racial slur "nigger," which originates from the 17th–18th century English adaptation of the Spanish/Portuguese word negro (black) and was used derogatorily against Black people. In the late 20th century, primarily within some Black communities, "nigga" was reappropriated as a term of camaraderie, friendship, or endearment among peers. Its use is context-dependent: it can be neutral or affectionate within the community, but it remains highly offensive and unacceptable when used by outsiders or in general contexts.

What is the origin of the term "nigga" and how is it used?
"nigga" is a variant of the racial slur "nigger," which dates back to the 18th–19th centuries and was used derogatorily against Black people. In the late 20th century, particularly within African American communities, "nigga" was reclaimed as a casual, neutral, or in-group term for a person, often male, conveying familiarity, camaraderie, or mild irritation. Its usage is highly context-dependent: it can be affectionate, humorous, or critical within the community, but it remains offensive if used by people outside the community due to its historical weight and racial connotations.
