What is a "cob"?

A cob refers to a sturdy, stocky type of horse that is shorter than a horse but taller than a pony. Cobs are typically between 14.2 and 15.2 hands (58 to 62 inches) at the withers and are known for their strength and versatility. They were originally bred for farm work and transportation, but today they are commonly used for riding and driving. Cobs have a compact, muscular build with a broad chest, short back, and strong legs. They are often characterized by their docile and gentle nature, which makes them suitable for novice riders or those who want a calm, reliable mount. Cobs come in a variety of colors, but most commonly are black, bay, or chestnut.
