Who is a "left-handed specialist"?
A left-handed specialist is a relief pitcher in baseball who is primarily used to face left-handed batters. Their role is to get key outs against left-handed hitters, who may have an advantage over right-handed pitchers. These specialists are often called into games in situations where there are left-handed batters up to bat, particularly in high-leverage moments. The left-handed specialist typically faces one or two batters before being replaced by another pitcher, often after getting the left-handed batters out.
