a blood test that measures platelet size, aiding in the diagnosis of blood clotting and bleeding disorders
What is a "mean platelet volume test"?
A mean platelet volume test (MVP test) measures the average size of platelets in a blood sample. Platelets are small cells in the blood that help with clotting. This test helps evaluate platelet production and function. A high MPV may be a sign that the bone marrow is producing larger, younger platelets, which can occur in conditions like inflammation or certain types of anemia. A low MPV might suggest that platelets are smaller and possibly less effective, which can be seen in some blood disorders. The MPV test is often used alongside other tests to understand platelet health and diagnose related conditions.
