What is "laryngoscopy"?

Laryngoscopy is a medical procedure where the back of the throat, the larynx which is known as the voice box, and the vocal cords are examined using a special tool called a laryngoscope. This tool is a thin, flexible tube with a light and camera at the end, which is inserted through the mouth or nose. Laryngoscopy is used to diagnose and treat issues such as voice problems, throat pain, difficulty swallowing, and to remove foreign objects or take tissue samples for biopsy.
