used to indicate that a task or set of tasks has been successfully completed
What does "mission accomplished" mean?
The structure is a simple declarative phrase that reports the completion of an objective, often with a tone of finality and success. It is used to announce that a task, operation, or goal has been successfully completed. The phrase became heavily loaded with irony after May 1, 2003, when President George W. Bush spoke beneath a "Mission Accomplished" banner on the USS Abraham Lincoln, declaring an end to major combat operations in Iraq years before the conflict actually ended. Outside of that political context, people still use the phrase sincerely for everyday achievements, but it often carries sarcastic or premature victory undertones when used about complex or ongoing situations.
