a licensed physician who provides care for patients in a hospital
Who is a "hospitalist"?
A hospitalist is a medical doctor who specializes in caring for patients during the time they are staying in a hospital. They typically work only in hospitals and are responsible for managing and organizing the medical care of hospitalized patients. Hospitalists oversee the treatment of short-term and long-term illnesses, order tests for diagnosing patients, adjust treatment plans as needed, and guide patients and their families about their medical condition and care. They play a vital role in ensuring continuity of care and helping ease the transitions between different healthcare settings, such as from the emergency department to inpatient care or from the hospital to home or a rehabilitation facility.
