What is "testis"?

The testis is a vital organ in the male reproductive system located within the scrotum. Its primary functions include the production and maturation of sperm cells through a process called spermatogenesis, as well as the secretion of testosterone, a hormone that plays a crucial role in male sexual development and reproductive function. The testis consists of numerous seminiferous tubules where sperm cells are produced, surrounded by supportive cells and interstitial cells that produce testosterone. The testis is essential for fertility and the maintenance of male secondary sexual characteristics.
