Relief printing
01
a printing technique in which an image is carved in relief on a printing block, such as wood or linoleum, and ink is applied to the raised surface of the block before it is pressed onto paper or another substrate
What is "relief printing"?
Relief printing is a technique where the areas of a printing plate that are raised above the surface are inked and pressed onto paper. In this process, the image is carved or cut into the plate, so the raised parts hold the ink while the lower areas do not. When the plate is pressed against paper, only the raised parts transfer the ink, creating the printed image. This method produces clear, bold images with distinctive textures.
