What is a "melanocyte"?

A melanocyte is a specialized cell found in the skin, hair follicles, and eyes. These cells are responsible for producing a pigment called melanin, which gives color to the skin, hair, and eyes. Melanocytes play a crucial role in protecting the skin from the harmful effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation by producing melanin, which absorbs and scatters UV light.
