What is a "recto"?

A recto is the right-hand page of an open book or manuscript. It is the page that faces the reader's right when the book is open. The recto is usually paired with the verso, which is the left-hand page. In a printed book, the recto page is typically numbered on the right side, and it often contains part of the text, illustrations, or other content. The recto and verso pages together form a single leaf, which is a single sheet of paper folded to create two pages.
